An update from our sixty-fifth Writing Workshop

A summary of the workshop held on May 14th, plus some of the output published below

Inspired by Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and the ballet’s conflict between Prince Siegfried and Baron Von Rothbart, William focused on protagonists and antagonists. Students saw examples in Harry Potter versus Voldemort, Luke Skywalker versus Darth Vader, and man versus nature. Of course, antagonists do not always need be people; antagonists can be anything that prevents the protagonist from getting what they want. As a warm-up, William asked students to spend five minutes naming a protagonist and antagonist, describing one of them, and embedding their driving force in that description.

The challenge: Write a plot summary that can be used to write a longer piece, or write a story in prose or verse in which we see the protagonist and antagonist in their eternal dance.
