Your Submission is Received

Once you submit your work through our Submittable portal, you'll receive an automatic confirmation email letting you know we've received your submission. This usually happens within a few minutes of clicking submit.

Your work is then added to our editorial queue, where it joins submissions from talented young writers and artists from around the world.

Editorial Review Process

Our editorial team carefully reviews every submission that comes through our doors. We read each story, poem, book review, and examine each piece of artwork with attention and care.

During this review process, we consider:

• Creativity and Originality: Does your work show unique perspective and imagination?
• Voice and Style: Do you have a distinctive way of expressing your ideas?
• Technical Merit: Is your work well-crafted for your age and experience level?
• Engagement: Will your work connect with and inspire other young readers?

This review process typically takes 4-6 weeks, though it can sometimes take longer during busy submission periods.

Editorial Decision

After our review, you'll receive an email through Submittable with our editorial decision. There are several possible outcomes:

Acceptance for Publication: Congratulations! Your work will be published in an upcoming issue of Stone Soup magazine. We'll send you details about publication timeline, contributor copies, and any minor edits we might suggest.

Acceptance for Online Publication: Your work may be selected for publication on our website, reaching thousands of readers worldwide.

Not Selected This Time: While we can't publish every submission, this doesn't mean your work isn't valuable. We encourage you to keep writing and submitting new work!

Publication Process

If your work is accepted, here's what happens next:
